Refuse Handling
Refuse bodies use several different cylinders on one truck, each doing a different motion. This section lists 8 models: 6 for rear loaders covering slide, sweep and packer positions, and 2 for side loaders covering the grabber and arm motions.
The positions are not interchangeable even where the bore looks close. A slide cylinder runs a long stroke under load and needs the heavier rod; a packer cylinder runs a short stroke and uses a smaller bore because the force requirement is lower.
Identification is the practical problem. Refuse bodies differ between builders even within a model year, so the position on the body and the measured bore/stroke of the existing unit are more reliable than the truck model.

How to choose within this section
- Identify the position first
- Rear loader: L slide 5.5 in bore / 37 in stroke, M slide 5 in / 32.5 in, packer 4 in / 18.37 in. Side loader: grabber 3 in / 8 in, arm 4 in / 40 in.
- Measure the existing unit
- Bore, rod and stroke measured on the cylinder being replaced settle the question faster than any catalogue lookup.
- Check the rod, not just the bore
- The M slide uses a 4 in rod against 2.5 in elsewhere — the heavier rod resists buckling over the longer stroke.
