Hydraulic power units
A hydraulic power unit is specified by three numbers: working pressure, required flow, and reservoir volume. HCIC Hydraulics builds standard units from 7.5 kW to 45 kW, custom units from a duty cycle or schematic, motorhome levelling systems and press systems. Every unit is assembled, filled, run and pressure-tested at 1.5 times working pressure before packing, and the test record ships with it. If you also buy the cylinders from us, flow and bore are sized together rather than quoted independently.
Four ways we build them
Standard power unit
7.5–45 kW, 400 L frame
Assembled, filled and pressure-tested; test record shipped with the unit
Custom power unit
From duty cycle or schematic
Manifold, valve stack and control cabinet built to your sequence
Motorhome levelling
RV and specialty vehicle
Compact reservoir, four-point levelling, low noise
Press systems
Press and forming
High-pressure circuit with accumulator and safety block
How to size the reservoir
The common industrial rule is three to five times pump flow, and the upper end of that range exists for heat rejection — not for oil volume. If the duty cycle is continuous or the ambient temperature is high, go to five times or fit a cooler rather than enlarging the tank.
| Pump flow | Reservoir (3–5×) | Typical application |
|---|---|---|
| 25 L/min | 75–125 L | Small press or single cylinder |
| 40 L/min | 120–200 L | Machine tool, light duty |
| 63 L/min | 190–315 L | Standard industrial frame |
| 100 L/min | 300–500 L | Multi-cylinder or continuous duty |

DC Hydraulic Power Unit
Battery-driven hydraulic power unit with a 12 V or 24 V DC motor, gear pump from 0.75 to 8 cc/rev, working pressure up to 250 bar and reservoirs from 3 to 16 litres.
- motor
- 12 V or 24 V DC
- pump displacement
- 0.75 – 8 cc/rev
- working pressure
- 50 – 250 bar (set at 180 bar)
- flow
- 3 – 25 L/min
Have a flow and pressure requirement?
Give us the working pressure, the flow you need and the duty cycle. That is enough to specify the motor, pump and reservoir.
